COSTA MESA, CA, June 7, 2017 – South Coast Plaza, the renowned international shopping destination, celebrates the film career and fashion influence of Diane Keaton on the eve of the American Film Institute’s annual gala with a special gift that pays tribute to her personal and cinematic style.

Keaton, who grew up near South Coast Plaza, will be presented with a wardrobe of white dress shirts especially selected for her by the center’s top luxury brands and fashion design houses, including Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli, Marni, Anne Fontaine, and CH Carolina Herrera. The presentation will take place at an exclusive reception hosted by the AFI Board of Trustees at the Hotel Bel-‐Air on June 7, the night before Keaton receives the 45th American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. The June 7 event is underwritten by South Coast Plaza which also serves as a sponsor of the June 8 tribute gala.

Known for her unique wardrobe in films such as Annie Hall (1977) all the way to Something’s Gotta Give (2003), Keaton’s personal style is just as distinct, marked by white dress shirts, fitted jackets and white and black turtlenecks.

“Diane has had a profound and ageless influence on fashion for four decades,” said Debra Gunn Downing, spokeswoman for South Coast Plaza. “No one wears a white dress shirt better, and her signature reinterpretation of menswear off-‐screen has inspired women to draw from men’s wardrobes. In recognition of Diane’s Orange County roots and on the occasion of our 50th year anniversary, South Coast Plaza is honored to sponsor both AFI tribute events and salute her life and iconic style.”

With the biggest names in Hollywood in the audience at the Dolby Theatre on June 8, Keaton will receive the film industry’s highest honor for her illustrious cinematic career. The annual black-‐tie gala is attended by a blend of industry powerbrokers and A-‐list talent, as well as leading national corporate executives and philanthropists. Guests will first be treated to an elegant dinner by Executive Chef Wolfgang Puck, followed by the all-‐star Award Tribute show. Ellen DeGeneres, Morgan Freeman, Steve Martin, Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon are confirmed presenters at the Tribute. The one-‐hour special AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO DIANE KEATON will premiere on TNT on Thursday, June 15, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will air the special on Monday, July 31, during a night of programming dedicated to Keaton’s work.

ABOUT THE AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The highest honor given for a career in film, the AFI Life Achievement Award was established by the AFI Board of Trustees in 1973. It is presented to a single honoree each year based on the following criteria as mandated through a resolution passed by the AFI Board of Trustees: “The recipient should be one whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public; and whose work has stood the test of time.” In 2016, the 44th AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute brought together the entire entertainment industry to honor John Williams and his storied career as the composer behind many of the greatest films and television series of all time. AFI Life Achievement Award recipient Steven Spielberg (1995) presented the award, while J.J. Abrams, Drew Barrymore, Will Ferrell, Kobe Bryant, Idina Menzel, Gustavo Dudamel, Bryce Dallas Howard and many others, including past honorees Harrison Ford (2000), Tom Hanks (2002) and George Lucas (2005), paid tribute to Williams in an evening filled with laughter, memorable anecdotes and, most importantly, music.
