SLOPE TO APRÈS-SKI CHIC

BY INGRID SCHMIDT

Latest slope to après-ski must-haves from our South Coast Plaza boutiques

‘Tis the season for an alpine escape. Whether your destination of choice is Stowe Mountain, St. Moritz, Courchevel or Colorado, a wardrobe of versatile, cozy-chic pieces is essential before entering that winter ski resort wonderland.

We have done all the legwork, gathering the latest slope-to-après-ski must-haves from our South Coast Plaza boutiques.  The goods include puffer coats, ski suits and pants, knit layering pieces, and all the gear — goggles, boots, hats, mittens and more–to suit sporty adventures and lodge lounging alike.

Retro-inspired looks are trending on the slopes this season. The Gucci Après-Ski collection offers glam skiwear sets, lug-soled boots, and ski masks as well as aluminum trolley suitcases, created in collaboration with luxe Italian luggage brand FPM Milano – available at our pop-up Gucci Valigeria boutique.

Canada Goose has teamed up with California-based sustainable fashion brand  Reformation on a collaborative collection of vests, parkas, puffer jackets and down-filled head scarves in vibrant prints.

Jimmy Choo has also made a foray into skiwear this season with a capsule line of snow-ready boots, ski suits, sweaters, puffers, totes, fleece-lined mittens, socks and more.

Our team of pro stylists are on call to further personalize your packing and sweep SCP boutiques for all the sizes and looks on your list. So all you need to do is pack, put your feet up, and relax with a hot toddy by the fire while dreaming snow-dusted trees and fresh powder in the new year.

New Louis Vuitton Debuts https://www.southcoastplaza.com/stories/2022/10/new-louis-vuitton-debuts/ Fri, 14 Oct 2022 17:19:18 +0000 https://www.southcoastplaza.com/?p=83428

NEW LOUIS VUITTON DEBUTS

Doubling down on divine design and fabulous fashion

It’s impossible to pass South Coast Plaza’s newest Louis Vuitton without noticing the eye-catching exterior. The dramatic façade of the second LV store at the Plaza features sculpted white lattice reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s signature Monogram Flower, and the intricate cane-work of the Maison’s original trunks. It’s bright and inspired design, and intriguingly tactile…

The exterior design is a play on classic boardgames like backgammon, and once inside it’s clear how seriously Louis Vuitton takes play, travel, and leisure. There is a game room at the center of the main showroom spotlighting Louis Vuitton’s gaming, gifting, publishing, and music offerings. The room’s focal point is a foosball table that is a fun and functional work of art. Made in France, with hand-painted players inspired by a 1921 LV illustration, it’s priced at $87,500. Think fast (as sporty-types love to say): the $123,000 LV billiard table that was exclusively featured at the new boutique sold on opening day, but can still be special ordered.

It’s not just fun and games at the new Louis Vuitton: the boutique offers men’s ready-to-wear, bags, leather goods, fashion-forward shoes, watches and jewelry, fragrances, accessories, and more. Sought-after items include the Louis Vuitton Paint Can Bags, the new sustainable LV Trainers in three colors, and Tambour watches, as Louis Vuitton celebrates the 20th anniversary of the trademark drum style.

The new South Coast Plaza boutique is just the second Louis Vuitton store in California dedicated to men, and the largest in the Americas. Designed in France by the LV architectural team, it’s the first LV boutique to feature the three-dimensional pattern on the façade.

Fine art helps define the interior space. The ready-to-wear section features a painting by California-based artist Marcel Rozek, who pours diluted pigment onto raw canvas, creating unexpected color relationships and abstract forms. Surf culture is highlighted in a work by Peter Dayton, who paints bold stripes onto wooden panels shaped to resemble exaggerated surfboards. For those who enjoy boards they can ride (or display on a wall), the boutique includes limited edition snowboards and skateboards designed in iconic LV style.

Additional finds at the new Louis Vuitton include heritage traveling trunks, variations on the Speaker Trunk, a sound system presented in the form of the iconic trunk with engraved mirror material reinterpreting the Monogram, as well as gaming trunks for billiards, cards, dice, dominoes, and poker. There are also selections from the Maison’s Objets Nomades, a collection of travel-inspired furniture and objects made in collaboration with renowned designers.

On the off chance that a Louis Vuitton client does not find a gift for themselves, family, or friends in the new Louis Vuitton, they certainly will at the iconic original boutique at South Coast Plaza.

THE FALL ACCESSORIES EDIT

METALLICS

Silver and gold are the hot hues in shoes and bags for the fall season, their unmistakable shine adding a high-wattage touch to your head-to-toe look. When reaching for metallic accessories, remember that a little goes a long way with these reflective surfaces. Indeed, mix textures and colors with a metallic statement bag or shoes to ensure your style feels current.

The hottest boot for fall reaches to the knee or higher, ideal for creating a chic head-to-toe look no matter your clothing choices. Whether you’re opting for the season’s sought-after miniskirts or, conversely, the maxi skirts that dominated so many runways, high boots are sure to create the sleek line you’re envisioning.

STATEMENT BANGLES

One jewelry piece enjoys the spotlight each season, and for Fall 2022, it’s unquestionably the wide cuff or bangle bracelet. Designers piled the style onto models’ wrists, mixing widths, colors and textures for a look that felt both put together and effortless. Indeed, it’s easy to have fun with this trend; mix costume and fine designs for a look that’s of the moment, customized and decidedly personal.

HATS ARE BACK

For truly standout style, few accessories conquer a moment quite like a hat. Bucket hats were omnipresent on the fall runways, and now in stores as well, perhaps because they’re easy to wear and, with a wide brim, frame the face beautifully. For a bit of undeniable drama, opt for a wide-brimmed felt style that’s sure to make heads turn. No matter what style you choose, this crowning touch should be the statement piece of your overall look.

Unquestionably feminine, the Mary Jane shoe lately has undergone a style transformation, with designers exploring new ways to inject a feeling of empowerment into the style once reserved for schoolgirl uniforms. From lug soles to menswear-inspired details, today’s modern Mary Jane reflects the confidence of every woman. Better yet, the design works across a broad spectrum of looks, so feel free to have fun with this piece as well.

FALL FASHION TRENDS 2022

BY MICHELLE DALTON TYREE

Designers Doubled Down on Joy, Vibrant Hues and Sweeping Hems

Saint Laurent Fall 2022 Fashion Show

After a spring and summer season punctuated by miniskirts, minidresses and mini bags, Fall style has made a dramatic about-face with designers taking a decidedly more fabric-forward approach to dressing. Jackets and blazers are supersized, plush robe coats channel serious cocoon vibes and, most notably, dress and skirt hemlines have plunged and puddled straight down to the floor.

But make no mistake: Fall’s dramatically dropped hemlines do not portend a somber fashion season. To the contrary, the mood on the runways was hopeful and bright — in fact, even fluorescent — one of fall’s hottest trends. There was a serious embrace of femininity with sensuous dresses and skirts sweeping across the floor at Saint Laurent, Dior and more. Blazers bulked up, yet tailoring remained sharp as we saw on the runways at Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Balenciaga. And designers showed fresh —  occasionally cheeky — takes on classics, from fabulously feline leopard prints to luxe tuxedo dressing and elevated equestrian looks. So, we’ve rounded up some of our own favorite pieces this season — and decided that when it comes to floor-grazing hems: We’re absolutely here for it!

INSIDE STORY: PLEASE DO NOT ENTER

BY INGRID SCHMIDT

The boutique-cum-design gallery is stocked with exclusive and rare art, fashion, furnishings, accessories, fragrance, books and more.

French art, design and fashion enthusiasts Nicolas Libert (an interior designer) and Emmanuel Renoird (a niche real estate broker, specializing in landmark properties) ventured from Paris to Los Angeles in 2014 to open the first Please Do Not Enter location. Housed in the 1921 Beaux Arts-style Pacific Mutual building in downtown L.A., the gallery-boutique hybrid offers their expert curation of covetable art, fashion, furnishings, fragrance, jewelry, accessories and design books. In November of 2019, South Coast Plaza invited the duo to open a pop-up shop for a few months with a mix of merchandise unique to this destination; the concept was so successful that Please Do Not Enter has become a permanent fixture on level one.  Each piece is rare, limited-edition or one-of-a-kind. The fashion emphasizes emerging designers, primarily from Europe and Asia, sourced every season at Paris Fashion Week.  Libert spoke to us about how discovery is central to the multi-brand design gallery and what’s in store for fall.

SOUTH COAST PLAZA

Q&A WITH NICOLAS LIBERT
OF PLEASE DO NOT ENTER

What is the story behind the name, Please Do Not Enter?

“We want people to have an experience when they come to the store. This Please Do Not Enter sign is, of course, reverse psychology. It is challenging you. Am I supposed to go in and what do they sell? We want people to be surprised, to have this exclusive feeling defined by some unseen, unexpected, really fun pieces. We love to work with this ambiguity. Is it a fashion store? Is it an art gallery?”

Tell us about your South Coast Plaza client.

“What makes the Plaza so different is that it’s a young crowd that travels a lot, so they have that experience of luxury, international fashion, and unusual finds. A perfect match for us! The idea of Please Do Not Enter was to curate a store with things you usually don’t find in the American market. It’s like a private collection that we open to the public. Many people who come in say it feels like a museum store. We exhibit our finds on white cubes and pedestals, and there is always an arty component to the displays.”

Can you talk to a recent window display at SCP?

“The latest display that we had at the Plaza was vintage jewelry–pieces by Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Dior from mostly the ’70s and ’80s. We asked a French hairdresser to make some sculptures out of real hair and we displayed these pieces on top of the sculptures.”

What brands and products are unique to this location?

“Our vintage jewelry collection from the ’70s to 2000 is only at the Plaza. We have a big lot of vintage Vivienne Westwood pieces coming soon, and an assortment of vintage apparel and handbags. Most of the fashion is by young and edgy designers. You’ll find basically all these designers that we pick at the Paris Fashion Week at this store. For fall, we will show fashion from Egonlab (France), Facetasm (Japan), Henrik Vibskov (Denmark), Walter Van Beirendonck (Belgium), Angel Chen (China), Lutz Huelle (Paris), Motoguo (Malaysia) and Feng Chen Wang (China). Fall jewelry collections at this store include Molism, Yavmin and Hanying (all from China), Rosalba Galati (Italy) and Samuel Coraux and Carre’y (France). We have a Hong Kong-based fragrance brand coming: Tobba Parfums by Jasper-Li Hong Lin.

We’ve been developing a collection of street art pieces, because there has been a really strong response here, and we have an ambitious selection of art, design and fashion books. Right now, we also have some amazing pieces by Brussels brand AP Collection—a limited $11,000 bench with sheepskin and grizzly bear plushies that is one of 50 in the world and three different stools. We have these highly collectible pieces that are art but also functional. And we are the only one in the U.S. to offer very limited-edition ceramic pieces by Hugo Meert.”

How else can you describe the PDNE shopping experience?

“If you come to Please Do Not Enter, you will always see new pieces. We usually have drops every week with new art pieces, new design collections. We want people to be excited, visiting us just to see what’s new, because it’s always changing!”

15 SUMMER STYLE MUST-HAVES

Our Guide to the Best of the 2022 Summer Trends

Marni

If this year’s summer fashion had a personality, it would be bold, spirited, expressive and optimistic. Case in point: the season’s most-coveted colors – hot pink, neon green and bright orange – say “look at me” and channel a cheerful vibe. Our favorite way to wear them? On a monochromatic power pantsuit, just like Viola Davis’ custom Lafayette 148 New York suit in a sunny shade of lemon or Sara Paulson’s orange jacket-pleated skirt-pants ensemble by Burberry.

Gucci

If it’s not color that’s drawing attention, then it’s the sparkle, shimmer and shine from sequins, rhinestones, lurex, and more, all meant to be worn whenever inspiration strikes, day or night.

It would not be summer without fashion that displays skin and shows off curves. Skirts are not just short, they’re micro-minis, while the peekaboo trend is still going strong via cut-outs on jumpsuits, catsuits, body-skimming dresses and tops.

The newest fine jewelry and watches borrow themes from Mother Nature

Van Cleef & Arpels

Nature is a constant inspiration that defies time in fine jewelry and watch design.

As in the past, the recent film awards season illustrates this beautifully, with flora and fauna themes once again emerging as celebrity favorites on the red carpet. Among the most spectacular are Lady Gaga’s floral necklace by Tiffany & Co. and the lavish Serpenti serpent necklace by Bvlgari worn by Selena Gomez to the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Men are into bold animal-themed jewelry as a finishing touch as well (and we want more of this, please). At the British Academy Film Awards, Kodi Smit-McPhee wore a Panthère diamond pin by Cartier on the lapel of his blue suit while Max Harwood accessorized his teal three-piece suit with a bird-shaped diamond pin.

This season, wild animals, plants and flowers come to vibrant life in the fantastical collections at our fine jewelry and timepiece boutiques, destined to be collectibles and heirlooms one day:

Visit the New Hermès Boutique https://www.southcoastplaza.com/stories/2022/03/hermes-has-opened-a-new-boutique/ Tue, 08 Mar 2022 00:10:14 +0000 https://www.southcoastplaza.com/?p=72026

VISIT THE NEW HERMÈS BOUTIQUE

The expanded location at South Coast Plaza reflects French craftsmanship and the Southern California landscape

Twenty-five years since it first opened at South Coast Plaza, Hermès has debuted a much-awaited new and expansive boutique. One of the largest locations on the West Coast for the luxury French house, the 7,100-square-foot store showcases a more complete vision of Hermès’ collections and reflects Southern California’s landscape and lifestyle.

“2022 marks our 25th year in South Coast Plaza and we cannot think of a better way to celebrate this moment than by moving into a beautiful new home,” Robert B. Chavez, Hermès USA President and CEO, said. “A significantly larger space will allow us to expand our offering of hand-crafted objects, as well as enhance our services and comfort to all our guests and clients.”

The boutique merges the colors and textures of ocean, sand, sky and mountains with Hermès’ French spirit at the new location on level 1 in the Nordstrom wing. Designed by the Parisian architecture agency RDAI, the store features organic curved structures, soft gradients of earth tones and natural materials.

ROBERT B. CHAVEZ, HERMÈS USA PRESIDENT AND CEO

The exterior and main entrance – one of three entrances – features a dramatic mural of gradient clay and terracotta tones that connect to the store’s interior palette. From inside South Coast Plaza, guests can access the boutique through two entrances – one on each end of the U-shaped boutique. An undulating glass façade framed in terracotta with wood claustra partitions creates an effect of light and shadows. Across the threshold, the terrazzo floor is made from mother of pearl and red marble with a stone mosaic illustrating the iconic Hermès Faubourg pattern.

Hermès’ signature scarves floating on wooden grids welcome guests, a prelude to the leather salon. An intimate women’s jewelry space is connected to a VIP area with walls covered in silver larch wood marquetry and a carpet inspired by visions of a misty sunset walk on the beach. This space leads to salons for ties, shoes and women’s and men’s ready-to-wear. The bag and clutch salon is bound to be a favorite among devotees of Hermès icons – the emblematic Kelly bag, the coveted Birkin bag, and the large bag that started it all, the Haut à Courroies. Near the home and equestrian collections is a bar where guests can relax, a space infused with a warm and welcoming ambience. Rounding out the interior spaces are the salons for the perfume and beauty collections, defined by rich terracotta ceramic walls and terrazzo flooring, and a new salon devoted to after-sales and repairs.

Throughout the store, sand walls with an earthen palette add texture, while artwork – including commissioned pieces by Filipe Jardim, Suzel Caspard and Marion Dubier Clark – enhances the boutique’s connection to marine motifs and the Hermès vernacular.

Together, the design elements of the boutique and the collections within are a unique juxtaposition of legendary French craftsmanship and artistry with a contemporary expression of Southern California through the lens of Hermès, no doubt an exciting new must-visit at South Coast Plaza.
